The Media in Pakistan due to the liberal policies of PEMRA (Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority) and sustained economic growth of 6.6% per annum for the past six years, is a booming industry. Ever since the highly regulated airwaves of Pakistan were rippled by the penetration of the first private TV channel, there has been no looking back.
- Pakistan media has seen a growth of 132 percent per year.
- There are currently approximately 116 radio channels
- More than 60 local TV channels
- Approximately 150 advertising agencies
- More than 74 production companies.
- According to APNS, there are more than 262 publications.
This growth in the number of players in this industry has been sudden and unanticipated and has opened a huge gap whereby these companies require infrastructural and technical world class production facilities.
According to the official publication of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) the cable television sector “is the fast growing segment among the electronic media venture”. In the first 100 days of the present government, it is claimed that licenses for 16 satellite TV channels, 10 FM radio stations, and 232 cable TV channels have been granted in addition to the previous licenses. It is anticipated that this would lead to investment worth PKR 2.5 billion, generating 4000 additional jobs in this sector. The cable television sector alone is employing some 30,000 people in the country.
Considering this, DAWN Newspaper has initiated an exhibition “Media Pakistan” focusing on Digital, Broadcast and Satellite Media technology. This effort is focused towards bringing the international producers and manufacturers of media technology into direct contact with the media companies in Pakistan.
The DAWN has been successfully organizing industry, trade, B2B and consumer events for the past decade. Our events include All about Lifestyle, Education Expo, Fuelling Pakistan, and Wedding Extravaganza & DAWN Asia Finance Conferences.
The aim of the exhibition would be to bring all the relevant service providers (rendering services & technology products to the media industry including technology sector vendors, suppliers, distributors, importers, exporters and agents to come together on a single platform providing an opportunity for business networking and knowledge sharing.
As with all DAWN conferences and exhibitions the opening day will be marked by a special report which will comprise of editorial features by Dawn’s leading financial editorial teams.
